The “garden of eternal happiness”

The idea of the garden

The “Garden of Eternal Happiness” stands for harmony between man and nature. A unique garden landscape of water, stones, buildings, paths and decorative design elements invites you to linger and relax. The design goal of Chinese gardens – to create harmony between the seven elements “earth, sky, stones, water, buildings, paths and plants” – allowed for the eighth element, the experiencer, the human being.

Man in the garden

And so these gardens focus on the meaningful composition of stones, water, buildings and paths. These elements serve as decoration. The garden images created invite you to rest, to enjoy and, above all, to contemplate. (A contemplative attitude is characterized by calm and gentle attention. The term is also often used in connection with the contemplation of nature or a work of art. The adjective contemplative here means concentration on spiritual content). This goal is achieved in the Weißenseer Garten.

The design elements

The buildings in the Weißensee Chinese Garden, which were prefabricated using traditional manufacturing methods and erected by Chinese specialists, are an unusual design feature. In addition to the dominant tea pavilion, a wedding pavilion, a pavilion of joy and arcades in the western and eastern parts of the garden have been created. At the center of the garden is the “Pond of the Four Seasons”. A footbridge in a zig-zag arrangement typical of Chinese gardens connects the tea and wedding pavilions. A flowing body of water accompanies visitors on their tours. In this way, the Chinese garden can be experienced as both a peaceful and an active place.

The materials

The path and wall materials used in the Weißensee Chinese Garden, as well as all structures such as pavilions and pagodas, are originally from China. Exceptions are the large-format travertine stones from a local quarry and solid wood for the steps and walkways to the gondola pond.

Getting married in the Chinese Garden

For many couples, getting married in the “Garden of Eternal Happiness” is more than just a lasting memory. We will be happy to answer your questions.

If you have decided to get married, then make this day even more beautiful by saying “I do” in the Chinese Garden. The number of people getting married in the Chinese Garden has been increasing since 2011.

A unique and extraordinary ambience envelops the wedding ceremony. Our gardener will decorate the wedding pavilion according to your wishes. From a little bow with a green branch to a white rose on the chair, many variations are possible, which you can discuss with us.

After the ceremony, you can order a small champagne reception in the garden, let pigeons fly in front of the Chinese Garden or saw wood as you wish. Make up your mind and turn your civil wedding ceremony into an unforgettable experience.

Pavilions and pagodas

The Chinese ‘Garden of Eternal Happiness’ in the center of the historic old town of Weißensee is the largest single garden of its kind in Germany. Connoisseurs regard it as a walk-in work of art of extraordinary beauty. It was modeled on a dragon and extends into the gondola pond. During his visit to Weißensee, the Chinese ambassador was very impressed and called this garden ‘… the showcase of China in Germany’.

The wedding pavilion is not only very popular with visitors. It offers a worthy setting for the most beautiful day in the lives of two people.

The tea pavilion offers the opportunity to find peace and contemplation.

Those who pass through the gate to Weitsicht are treated to a magnificent view of the Pavilion of Fragrant Water and the Lake Pavilion.

The Pavilion of Joy impresses with its transparency and thus allows a panoramic view of the garden, because happiness and joy belong together.
