Grail – the way of Parzival

TORSTEN IHLENFELDT has created an oversized stainless steel drinking cup with a continuous opening that can also be used as a slide. Drinking vessels are objects of human culture and are associated with ritual or religious functions in all cultures. Its clear oversize places it in the world of legends and – as the artist himself says – the object gets its significant reference to Weißensee from the term ‘Grail’. In his poem “Parzival”, the knight and minstrel Wolfram von Eschenbach, who was present at the court of Hermann I, Landgrave of Thuringia, pays tribute to the Thuringian region with a masterpiece of medieval literature. It is about drive, courage and the unshakeable strength to pursue a goal – in other words, to give life meaning.
