Elisabethtor – the walk-in book

GERNOT EGWALD EHRSAM has created an entrance to the city from sandstone and Corten steel that is modeled on a book. Visitors walk through the Gothic iron gate and find themselves in an illustrated depiction of St. Elisabeth and the magician Klingsor. They can see the story of St. Elisabeth, who was brought to Thuringia as a child by the magician Klingsor. She grew up at the court of the Thuringian landgrave, then married Louis the Fourth and, as landgravine, was certainly also in Weißensee. The special geological feature of the sandstone block used is a clearly visible fist-sized meteorite impact. Its blast wave is reddish brown in color. 200 million years of geological and cosmic history are legible. When looking at the work, an involuntary confrontation with time periods, history, the present and the world of legends takes place.
